Renetta Trissel grew up in the Terre Haute area and graduated from St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing. She has been a registered nurse for 45 years. She also served in the Army Nurse Corps for 21 years of service with both active duty and reserve. Renetta and her husband Ray will celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary in August. She has 3 adult children and 7 grandchildren. They welcomed their first great-grandchild on April 11, 2011, Naryah Raven. She is a blessing to their lives!
Naryah fell in love with horses, much like her great-grandma did, and will gladly tell you which horse she is going to ride, and which horse she might let you ride! Naryah started riding before she was 2, under Renetta's watchful eye and guidance. She loves to trot and has recently decided she just might want to try to lope. Fortunately, her current favorite horse to ride, Classy, takes a bit of coaxing to go very much out of a gentle trot! But, Naryah has succeeded in loping for at least half a lap around the arena. Her proud "Gramma Netta" watches closely and loves having Naryah to share her passion with.
Renetta’s love for horses was born in her early childhood and she became an avid equestrian while living in Helena, Montana where she studied under the instruction of Little Bit Farms and Richard Shrake’s Resistance Free methods. Renetta has extensive horse show and trail riding experience, as well as many years as a 4-H leader. She has completed the training neccesary and is a Richard Shrake certified trainer/instructor.
Renetta is presently enrolled at Newburgh Theological Seminary, where she plans to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies. Renetta saw one of her goals fulfilled and was ordained as a minister on October 19, 2013.
Spotted Horse Ministries was a dream that sparked in early 2007 and has since grown, with God’s blessings, beyond her imagination.
Ray grew up in Texas as an Army brat and is now himself retired from the US Army with a Special Forces background, as well as law enforcement. Ray holds an 8th degree black belt Grand Master Sensei in Aikido, which he attained while on active duty and studying in both Korea and Japan, and hopes to some day sponsor a training program as another outreach program under Spotted Horse Ministries. He is also quite a skilled musician and has picked up his 12 string guitar again and has been playing for several small events.
Ray also studied under the instruction of Little Bit Farms and Richard Shrake in Montana, and has since gained a working knowledge of the Clinton Anderson methods of horse training. Ray was also a rodeo bull rider, but we don't hold that against him. He is the barn manager for Hoosier Spots Ranch and helps with just about anything else needed around the place. He is quietly behind the scene most of the time, but takes an active part when needed, especially if round pen work or demonstrations are involved. Ray is Renetta's best supporter and has accompanied her to her Richard Shrake clinics. Richard usually will put Ray to work helping other less experienced riders in the clinics. Ray was also ordained as a minister on October 19, 2013, and has since become involved with the praise and worship part of events held at the ranch.
Both Renetta and Ray attend Grace Temple Church in Terre Haute. Both Bishop David Fleetwood, before his untimely death, and Bishop Murray Galloway have been mentors and inspiration to both of them. We welcomed Pastor David Powell to Grace Temple and he has jumped in feet first to volunteer with us, as well as mentoring. They are also both active members of the Indy Tres Dias community.
BIBLE SCHOOL HORSE CAMP
Shelbyville artist, Shanae Dees showed us how to make pottery with clay on her pottery wheel. This was one of the highlights of camp that year! A big thank you to Shanae for sharing her talents with us!
